Music Magazine Current Front Cover (Improved)

This is my improved front cover, I have added a lot more information about the contents of the magazine and I have added a few more lines to break up the sections of the front cover. I have also added the price and the issue number. At the moment I think that I need to edit the title because I don’t think it fits in with the rest of the cover. I also need to find a way to fill in the blank spaces or to make them look less noticeable than they do at the moment.

Magazine Front Cover Images

These are the three images that I took for my front cover. I thought it would look good if I caught her jumping midair for one, as I could place it right in the middle of my front cover and base the text around her, however, when I finished taking them I realised that it didn’t look how I expected it to and I much preferred the standing images taken. The two standing images are taken in different lights. In one she has light shining on her face, on the other it is dark. I preferred the darker image as I thought the lighting looked more professional, however, when I started editing this image I realised that it was blurred due to the darkness of the surroundings. I decided that it would be better to edit the lighter image and use that one rather than use a blurry image.

Music Magazine Front Cover Drafts

My first draft is simply the magazine title alongside the main image that I am going to use for my front cover. The background is white fading into black around the outside; this focuses the attention onto my magazine without overpowering the items on the page. I have edited my image giving it a higher contrast level and giving it a black ‘glow’. This allows it to blend in with the front cover so that the image doesn’t look out of place. In the bottom right hand corner I have added a line reading “Images Courtesy of RH LMT Productions” this doesn’t stand out, however it gives the magazine a more professional feel to it.
In the second draft I have included some text alongside my main image, which introduces the main theme of the magazine. The font stating the name “Cate” has a red rim to it, tying it into the colour theme of the magazine. I have also included a barcode at the bottom of the front cover to make it
look more professionalThe second draft includes more detail into the contents of the magazine; I have also included several black and red lines next to her name to draw the reader’s focus towards it and to break it up from the rest of the front cover.

Mr Taylor...

Right, the front cover has gone wrong.. the stuff i have on my computer is rubbish compaired to fireworks which made it almost impossible to make it look like I wanted it too. This includes the title, which I wanted to look like this...
So I know I will have to improve the front cover loads. I just didn't want it to look like thats how I wanted it to end up...
I will try and make it look right during the holidays as well, but if I can't, it wont take me long to do it at school.

Mock Contents Page.

Before I took any magazine images, I wanted to make sure that I knew what I wanted. I created another mock up in greater detail giving me a better idea of what to take.
I like the layout of this page as the image boxes give the reader a glimpse of what is in the magazine, making it more appealing to them.
I need to put something in the empty space at the top of the page as it looks messy and unorganised. I could fill this space in with another image or more contents.

Magazine Title Designs.

For my magazine title I decided that a plain black design wouldn't suit my colour scheme due to it being too plain and the because it may fade into the background. Because the main colour in my colour scheme is red, i decided that the obvious choice for my font would be red. Using Fireworks I have designed 5 possible font designs (not including the original design) that I could use on my magazine.
I decided to use 3rd design, as it blends the bold red with darker ones. As this is a mixture of two colours, the title won't fade into the background easily.

Indie Magazine Double Page Spread Layout

This is the layout for the items on my double page spread. The quotes that stand before the interview will stand out attracting the readers attention, alongside the main image at the side.

This is the layout for the items that will go on my contents page. Like the front cover, the red background is the main colour in my colour scheme.

Colour scheme

When thinking about my colour scheme for my magazine, I decided that I would have one main colour and then use a range of the different tones of that colour mixed with the grey tones shown at the bottom. I decided that I would create a wide range of colours that I believe to be suitable for my target audience, I then asked 15 people who are the age of my target audience to pick one of the colours and see which one came up with the best result.

The winning colour was the middle red tone, which I will use alongside similar tones and the grey tones underneath.
